Role/Position Definition:

Under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist provides assistance, supplies and equipment for the delivery of regional block anesthesia for patients. Responsible for stocking supplies and equipment for the delivery of anesthesia in all anesthesia services areas: including all operating rooms and in pre-operative area. Assist with the cleaning of anesthesia supplies and equipment in between cases to help insure rapid turnover. Maintain the anesthesia workroom supplies and equipment in an organized and clean manner with adequate par levels. Provide assistance and equipment to anesthesiologists and CRNA’s with difficult airways that require glidescope or fiberoptic intubation or with any invasive lines such as central or arterial.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance with patient preparation of regional block including positioning, applying monitors and oxygen, gathering all necessary equipment and pushing medications under the direct supervision of the anesthesiologist.
  • Records data on block sheet and into CPSI.
  • Stocks and maintains anesthesia block carts in pre-op area and anesthesia carts in operating rooms with adequate supplies.
  • Knows, provides, and maintains the assembly and operation of all anesthesia equipment, monitors and supplies.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of anesthesia machines used in department and provides primary trouble-shooting skills during problems with equipment.
  • Provides technical assistance as requested by the anesthesiologist or anesthetist during fiberoptic or glidescope intubation.
  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by actively participating in charge capture, cost containment, and data entry.
  • Demonstrates professional communication skills on a verbal and non-verbal level while performing harmonious team relationships.
  • Follows hospital and department policy relative to time and attendance.
  • Seeks ongoing learning experiences in order to keep current with practice and promote self-growth.
  • Demonstrates customer first attitude.
  • Ensures and enhances facility, safety and regulatory outcomes, including AOA standards, CMS, and National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Completes all mandatory training/education/competencies required for job classification, along with TB testing and annual flu vaccination.

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

A. Education/Experience

a.) Must be certified as anesthesia technician from an accredited school of American Society of Anesthesia Technologist and Technicians (ASATT).
b.) 2-3 years experience as anesthesia technician providing care in a hospital setting
c.) Experience assisting with anesthesia regional blocks.

B. Licensure/Certification

a.) Must possess a current anesthesia technician certification from the American Society of Anesthesia Technologist and Technicians (ASATT).
b.) Current BLS certification required.

C. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

a.) Must be able to multi-task.
b.) Requires language skills adequate for high-level written and interpersonal communication in American English.
c.) Requires immediate judgment and response: occasional in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.
