NURSE MANAGER

Med/Surg Unit

Assumes responsibility for and is accountable for the day-to-day operations of the Med-Surg unit. Utilizes principles of management and the nursing process, to achieve optimal care. Primary functions are to supervise, instruct and guide nursing and auxiliary personnel improving high quality nursing services. Ensures that the unit is appropriately staffed on assigned shift with qualified personnel in order to deliver and maintain quality care for patients. Supports the development, implementation, evaluation, and outcome of nursing and patient care practices consistent with the mission, philosophy, goals and objectives of Surgeons Choice Medical Center.  Responsible for assisting in the implementation and maintenance of professional, community, State, Federal, and AOA standards of practice. 

Duties & Responsibilities:    

  • Responsible for 24/7 nursing coverage for Med/Surg unit.
    • Accepts on-call responsibilities and is on-call 24/7 for staffing, patient, and other departmental concerns
  • Maintains an up-to-date knowledge of:
  • Maintains and promotes staff competence by developing and promoting continuing education and other learning experiences.
    • Organizes and participates in orientation and staff development programs to meet identified learning needs; enforces attendance requirement at in-service programs and staff meetings.
  • Contributes to the progress/development of the approved Quality Management Program and incorporates quality improvement data and/or patient satisfaction data into departmental goals. 
  • Directly supervises employees and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the policies and procedures, and applicable law
    • Responsibilities include assisting the Director of Nursing in:
      • Interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; evaluating performance; counseling employees when necessary regarding performance concerns; as well as addressing complaints, resolving problems, and possibly presenting progressive corrective action steps up to termination.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

 

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Position Requirements:

Education/Experience

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
  • Minimum of 1 year supervisory or management role in a hospital setting required.
  • 3+ Years of Med/Surg nursing experience required.

 Licensure/Certification

  • Current unrestricted RN License from the State of Michigan required.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers, from the American Heart Association required.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
