Job Description

Shift Time: Multiple shift availability
Shift Length: Hours vary
Standard Hours Per Week: Contingent status, Hours Vary

Role/Position Definition:  Provides speech-language pathology services to patients/residents impaired by cognitive/communicative and/or swallowing dysfunction, including assessment, treatment planning and implementation of treatment plans. 

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Conducts speech-language pathology screenings and evaluations to determine patient/resident cognitive/communicative and/or swallowing status.
  2. Develops and implements treatment plans to reach patients/resident’s highest potential for independence.
  3. Provides direct patient/resident care to facilitate the restoration of functional abilities.
  4. Checks, instructs, assigns and reviews the work of the students in accordance with the academic guidelines.
  5. Provides documentation in a legible manner to maintain quality of the medical record as it relates to reimbursement guidelines, accuracy and facility requirements.
  6. Participates in team and family conferences as necessary.
  7. Promotes current standards of clinical practice through participation in continuing education and in-service programs.
  8. Participates in program development.
  9. Provides in-services to other staff members on speech-language pathology as it relates to patient/resident care.
  10. Adheres to standards of practice established by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

Qualifications/Position Requirements:


  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited school required.


  • ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence
  • Current unrestricted Speech-Language Pathologist License in the State of Michigan required

  • Ability to react effectively to the needs of patients and families.
  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and initiative when analyzing problems and recommending solutions.
